Dinosaur Ridge
April 6, 2009 by thejourneyishome
For a post work hike I headed to the nearby Matthews/Winters Park, part of the Jefferson County Open Space parks. I parked off the closed Alameda Pkwy on Dinosaur Ridge and walked the road up to see the dinosaur foot prints.
Further up the road were ripplemarks in the stone which photographed better with the sun’s current position.
I didn’t have a set plan for this afternoon’s hike, so when I saw the Dakota Ridge trail taking off to the right I thought it was about time to get off the road. After hiking to the top of the ridge the views of the Hogsback snaking south were impressive.
I followed the trail north along the ridge crest and eventually dropped back down the east side on the Zorro Trail. That trail was a muddy mess and my shoes picked up several pounds of mud by the time I reached Rooney Road. The mile walk on the road back to my starting point was just about enough distance to remove most of the mud however.
